The Faithful Glass
Another book for my exhibition in October at Chawton House Library. Damon gave Iris a looking glass that could speak to her about her wondrous beauty. The book is inspired by reading Aphra Behn's La Montre: The Lover's Watch, 1868. The last chapter in the book is called The Looking- Glass and has been written from the object's perspective. I think this may be the earliest "IT" book written.
My book needs to be read using a mirror as the text is back to front. The cover is made from mirror card and this can be used to read the text. A portrait of Iris is on the reverse.
